COBALT(III) ACETYLACETONATE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
It is only sparingly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents212 and is monomeric in the vapour as well as in benzene. The crystals are isomorphous with the monoclinic tris(acetylacetonates) of aluminium, manganese(III) and chromium(III) ; they are diamagnetic XM = -59.4×10-6 c.g.s. units at 27.4°C.
Preparation
Cobalt(III) acetylacetonate Co(CH3COCHCOCH3)3 is prepared as dark green crystals (m.p. 241°) by the oxidation of a cobalt(II) solution in the presence of acetylacetone.
