4-(chlorophenylmethyl)-1,1'-biphenyl can be used as an intermediate of the antifungal agent bifonazole.
Synthesis
Condensation of biphenyl and benzoyl chloride produces 4-benzoyl biphenyl, which is then reduced with sodium borohydride and thionyl chloride chloride to obtain 4-(chlorophenylmethyl)-1,1'-biphenyl.
