2-Fluoro-6-Methoxynitrobenzene Usage And Synthesis

Synthesis

Potassium hydroxide (1.8 g, 32.5 mmol) was added to a methanol (50 mL) solution of 2,6-difluoronitrobenzene (5 g, 32 mmol) and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 3 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, water was added to the mixture and extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was separated, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 5.1 g of 3-fluoro-2-nitroanisole (1e) in 95% yield. Mass spectrometry analysis showed a molecular ion peak (MH+) m/z of 172.
