Chemical Properties

Pure product is amber to off-white resinous powder. Soluble in benzene, chloroform, carbon disulfide and acetone, slightly soluble in petroleum hydrocarbons, insoluble in water.

Uses

Antioxidant, stabilizer, or polymerization inhibitor.

General Description

Yellowish to amber pellets, powder or flakes or beige powder. Slight odor. Insoluble in water; miscible with ethanol, acetone, benzene, monochlorobenzene, isopropyl acetate, and gasoline.

Reactivity Profile

Accelerated stability studies indicate that Poly(1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline) is unstable when stored at 140° F for 2 weeks, protected from light. Acetone solutions are stable for 3 weeks in the dark at room temperature. Solutions in acetone stored for 3 hours open to air and light are also stable. Poly(1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline) is incompatible with concentrated nitric acid and strong oxidizers.

Synthesis

Aniline and benzenesulfonic acid were put into a kettle reactor equipped with a condenser device according to the mass parts of 8.9 parts and 0.52 parts, respectively, and heated to melt under stirring and warmed up to 155 ??, and started to add acetone drop by drop, maintaining the temperature at 155??165 ??, and when the addition was completed after 13 parts of mass parts of acetone, the temperature was still maintained at 155??165 ?? to carry on the condensation reaction under the reflux of acetone, and it was carried out until the end point.
