2-(TRIFLUOROMETHYL)STYRENE Usage And Synthesis

Uses

o-Trifluoromethylstyrene is a commonly used monomer in the synthesis of fluorinated polystyrene, a polymer material. To date, two methods for the synthesis of o-trifluoromethylstyrene have been reported in the literature. The first method uses trifluoromethylphenylethanol as a raw material and potassium bisulfate as a dehydrating agent in a heated dehydration reaction. The second method uses trifluoromethylphenylethanol as a raw material and phosphorus pentoxide as a dehydrating agent in anhydrous benzene solvent in a heated dehydration reaction.
