1-amino-4-(methylamino)anthraquinone Usage And Synthesis

Preparation

(a) 1,4-Diamino-2,3-dihydroanthraquinone?in the presence of sulfuric acid in chlorine, with methanol for methylation;

Synthesis

1-Amino-4-methylaminoanthraquinone is prepared from 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone by partial methylation , from 1-amino-4-methylaminoanthraquinone- 2-sulfonic acid by reductive SO3H cleavage , , from 2,3-dihydro- 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone by hydroxyl replacement , or from 2,3- dihydro-1,4-diaminoanthraquinone by replacement of NH2 (in admixture with 1,4- bismethylaminoanthraquinone).

Purification Methods

Purify the quinone by TLC on silica gel plates using toluene/acetone (3:1) as eluent. The main band is scraped off and extracted with MeOH. The solvent is evaporated, and the residue is dried in a drying pistol [Land et al. J Chem Soc, Faraday Trans 1 72 2091 1976]. [Beilstein 14 H 198, 14 I 462, 14 III 440, 14 IV 458.]

Properties and Applications

bright blue purple. Soluble in acetone and benzene, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in linseed oil. The strong sulfuric acid for brown, diluted in red. And C.I.Solvent Violet 12 learn the same structure.
