Chemical Properties

Lithium selenate, molecular formula Li2SeO4. Molecular weight 149.90. Monohydrate is a monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 2.565. It is stable in air but toxic. It is readily soluble in water.

Uses

Lithium Selenide is used as a nucleophilic agent for synthesis of organic selenides.

Preparation

For large-scale preparations of Lithium Selenide, reduction of Se with Li in THF in the presence of naphthalene as a catalyst is safe and more economical.
