Uses
4,4'-Bi[2,3,6-trimethylphenol] is commonly used as an antioxidant and UV absorber to prevent aging and decomposition of rubber and plastic products. The compound can also be used as an initiator of photochemical reactions, UV-curable coatings and dyes.
Synthesis
4,4'-Bi[2,3,6-trimethylphenol] can be prepared by methylation of phenol using an appropriate methylating agent such as methylmagnesium bromide.
