ChEBI: 3-hydroxytetradecanoic acid is a 3-hydroxy fatty acid that is tetradecanoic (myristic) acid substituted at position 3 by a hydroxy group It has a role as a bacterial metabolite and a human metabolite. It is a 3-hydroxy fatty acid, a long-chain fatty acid and a 3-hydroxy monocarboxylic acid. It is functionally related to a tetradecanoic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 3-hydroxytetradecanoate.

Biochem/physiol Actions

DL-β-Hydroxymyristic acid (3-HTA) is a mixture of D- and L-β-hydroxymyristic acid enantiomers. 3-Hydroxytetradecanoic acids are used to study their roles in biological processes such as oxidative stress, inflammation and insulin resistance. 3-HTA is also used in endotoxin and lipid A research.
