Synthesis

(b) Synthesis of 4-aminobenzoxazole: The crude product 4-nitrobenzoxazole described above was suspended with Pd/C (5%, 0.51 g) in MeOH (50 mL). The mixture was placed under H2 (50 psi) atmosphere and the reaction was shaken at room temperature overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered through a diatomaceous earth layer and the filter cake was washed with MeOH. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 6.87 g of light brown solid product (100% yield). The product was characterized by 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 7.96 (s, 1H), 7.16 (t, J = 8.1 Hz, 1H), 6.95 (dd, J = 0.9,8.1 Hz, 1H), 6.61 (dd, J = 0.6,8.1 Hz, 1H), 4.33 (brs, 2H).
