Umbellulon Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Pungent and irritating, but in dilution rather pleasant, minty-Tansy-like, resinous-balsamic odor of moderate to poor tenacity.
Physical properties
Colorless oily liquid. Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Production Methods
Umbellulon can be produced by isolation from the essential oil of
Umbellularia califomica (California laurel) in
which the ketone is present at the rate of
20 to 60%.
The ketone may be accompanied by Pseudoumbellulone, a solid isomer.
