2,5-Dimethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole is a heterocyclic compound containing an oxadiazole ring, which is neutral to weakly acidic, with a boiling point of 172–176°C, a density of about 1.075 g/cm³, is a liquid at room temperature, is readily soluble in most organic solvents, and is chemically stable.

Uses

2,5-Dimethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole was studied as a catalyst without appreciable loss when recycled from batch to batch. Solution of 2,5-Dimethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole gave the highest selectivity (removal of undesirable polycyclic aromatics) in purification of petroleum oils.
