Chemical Properties
white powder(s) (?78°C) [CRC10]
Uses
Iodine Monofluoride is used for adding iodine and fluorine atoms across double and triple bonds; iodinates aromatic rings; converts carbonyls, through their hydrazones, to the CF2 group.
Preparation
The true molecule of Iodine Monofluoride can be prepared in situ by a reaction between the corresponding elements or by reacting Iodine with IF5 or iodine with Silver(I) Fluoride.
Precautions
Iodine Monofluoride should be used in a fume hood.
