Synthesis

General procedure for the synthesis of 4-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)piperidine hydrochloride from 4-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)piperidine: Step D: 4-(2-Trifluoromethylphenyl)piperidine (4, 5.6 g, 24.5 mmol) was dissolved in acetonitrile (30 mL) and a 1,4-dioxane solution (6.1 mL, 24.5 mmol) of 4M HCl was added slowly at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 10 min and then concentrated under reduced pressure to give 4-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl)piperidine hydrochloride as a white solid (6.4 g, >99% yield); mass spectrum (ESI+) m/z: 230 [M+H]+.
