phenyl cinnamate Usage And Synthesis
Definition
Phenyl cinnamate has been used in perfume compositions as a fixative for balsamic and Oriental fragrance types. Phenyl cinnamate decomposition may create a phenolic odor.
Production Methods
Phenyl cinnamate is produced from Phenolsodium and Cinnamoylchloride.
Purification Methods
Crystallise the cinnamate from EtOH (2mL/g). It can also be distilled under reduced pressure. [Womack & McWhirter Org Synth Coll Vol III 715 1955, Beilstein 9 H 583, 9 II 387, 9 III 2689, 9 IV 2011.]
