Definition

ChEBI: 7-dehydrodesmosterol is a 3beta-sterol having the structure of desmosterol with an extra double bond at C-7--C-8. It has a role as a human metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is functionally related to a desmosterol.

Biological Activity

7-dehydrodesmosterol (7-DHD) levels are higher during fetal development and increases with aging. Elevated levels of 7-DHD is associated with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome mouse model. Reduced levels of 7-DHD is observed in shiverer and quaking disorder.
