(S)-Metolachlor is a herbicide and an isomer of metolachlor, which can be used for selective grass weed control, and it can reduce the chemical load to the environment likewise give good efficiency.

Definition

ChEBI: (S)-metolachlor is the (S)-enantiomer of 2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-N-(1-methoxypropan-2-yl)acetamide. It is an enantiomer of a (R)-metolachlor.

Synthesis

In 250ml flask add amine ether (40g, 0.1894mol), add sodium carbonate (11.2g, 0.1042mol), add water 11.1g, stirring, dropwise addition of chloroacetyl chloride (22.7g, 0.1988mol), dropwise addition is completed to continue stirring for 10 minutes, the assay was obtained conversion rate of 99.5%, and then add 30g of water to wash, static separation off the Then add 30g of water washing, static separation of the upper layer of water, the lower organic layer of vacuum dehydration, isopropyl metolachlor 54g, yield of 98.5%, GC content of 98%.
