Example 18: Synthesis of dicyclohexyl carbonate by reaction of cyclohexanol, CO2 and propylene oxide at 80 bar CO2 pressure and 150 °C using BWCsoo as catalyst. This was done as follows: propylene oxide (10.17 g, 0.175 mol), cyclohexanol (140.81 g, 1.40 mol) and BWC80o catalyst (15.0 g, 10% wt/wt) were added to a 700 ml autoclave vessel and sealed. Subsequently, the autoclave vessel was pressurized with CO2, heated to 150 °C with continuous stirring and maintained at 80 bar pressure, and the reaction continued for 24 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was post-treated according to the method described in Example 1. By quantitatively analyzing the reaction mixture, the amount of dicyclohexyl carbonate produced was measured to be 9.55 g (42.0 mmol), with a yield of 24% calculated on the basis of propylene oxide.
