Uses

Sodium trimethylsilanolate is used as a catalyst in the:

Synthesis of the rhodium silonate complex.
Silylation of methylphenylsilane with tert-butyldimethylsilanol to synthesize trisiloxanes.

Purification Methods

It is very soluble in Et2O and *C6H6 but moderately soluble in pet ether. It is purified by sublimation at 130-150o in a high vacuum. [Hyde et al. J Am Chem Soc 75 5615 1953, Tatlock & Rochow J Org Chem 17 1555 1952, Beilstein 4 III 1856.]
