a modulator of the sphingolipid and glycerophospholipid pathway to study its effects on myelination in mice Charcot–Marie–Tooth type 1A (CMT1A) myelinopathy and myelinating dorsal root ganglia cultures
in biophysical studies to study its effects on artificial membranes
to study its interactions with major membrane lipid films

An oleic acid synthetic analog that is an effective non-toxic anticancer drug with a wide spectrum against different types of cancer. An antihypertensive.

Definition

ChEBI: 2-hydroxyoleic acid is a 2-hydroxy fatty acid that is oleic acid which carries a hydroxy group at position 2. It is an orally bioavailable synthetic hydroxylated fatty acid which modulates the lipid content of cancer cell membranes and induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in several cancer cell lines. It has a role as an antineoplastic agent, an apoptosis inducer and an antihypertensive agent. It is a 2-hydroxy fatty acid, a long-chain fatty acid and a hydroxy monounsaturated fatty acid. It is functionally related to an oleic acid. It is a conjugate acid of a 2-hydroxyoleate.

Biochem/physiol Actions

2-Hydroxy oleic acid (2OHOA) is a derivative of oleic acid. It plays a role in membrane organization, alterations in?membrane fluidity, an increase of the tendency to form non-lamellar structures, and remodeling of microdomains by interacting with the lipids in membranes of pathological cells.

in vivo

(Rac)-Idroxioleic acid markedly and significantly inhibits tumour growth in nude mice infected with Jurkat cells^[1].

Animal Model:	6-week-old nude male mice (Jurkat cells xenograft model)^[1]
Dosage:	600 mg/kg
Administration:	Oral administration; daily; for 21 days
Result:	Markedly and significantly inhibited tumour growth.
