Description

7H-Benzo[c]carbazole (BCz) is a carbazole derivative used in the preparation of OLED emitters. Benzo[b]indole[1,2,3-lm]carbazole (NI-1) and benz[c]indole[3,2,1-jk]carbazole (NI-2) are isomeric chromophores based on BCz, formed by fusing BCz to a phenyl ring. Functionalization of this chromophore can further produce stable blue fluorescent emitters for OLED applications^[1].

Uses

7H-Benzo[c]carbazole (BCz) can be used to construct ultra-long organic room temperature phosphorescent (UORTP) materials (powders and films).Pure powders of BCz and its derivatives show only blue fluorescence under ambient conditions, however, when BCz and its derivatives are dispersed in polymers or powder matrices, a strong photo-activation can be observed from their doped systems at room temperature These materials have applications in photosensitive printing and underwater coating.

Preparation

Flash vacuum pyrolysis of the 3-phenylindol-2-ylmethylene derivative of Meldrum's acid at 600° and at 750°/0.03 mm gives 9-phenyl-3H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]indol-3-one (97%). At 900°/0.3 mm (49%) is accompanied by 7H-benzo[c] carbazole (10%)^[2].
