Uses

2-METHYL-2-PENTENAL has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as part of novel green topnote complexes. It has also been used to a minor extent in the reconstruction of certain essential oils.

Production Methods

2-METHYL-2-PENTENAL can be produced from Propionaldehyde by selfcondensation (Aldol-condensation).
