Uses

5-HT1 and 5-HT2C receptor partial agonist that has been shown to reduce 5-HIAA levels in the striatum and exhibits antiaggressive behavior in vivo. A novel drug for the treatment of anxiety as well as other neurological and mental disorders.

Biological Activity

Eltoprazine hyrochloride is a serotonin 5-HT1A/1B receptor agonist th at has been shown to reduce L-DOPA-induced dyskinesias in in experimental models of Parkinsonμs Disease and in human patients. It has Ki values for 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B and 5-HT1C receptors of 40 nM and 52 nM, respectively.

in vivo

Rats are chronically treated with Mianserin (10 mg/kg i.p.) or Eltoprazine (1 mg/kg i.p.) and are tested in the elevated plus-maze test for anxiety. Mianserin and Eltoprazine display opposite effects in the elevated plus-maze: Mianserin induces anxiolytic-like effects, while Eltoprazine shows anxiogenic-like ones[2].
