Uses

Triethylantimony is mainly used as a catalyst in organic synthesis.

Application

High-purity triethylantimony provides antimony sources for semiconductor materials such as AlSb, GaSb, and InSb, and is one of the most important sources for growing optoelectronic materials in the process of metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and chemical beam epitaxy (CBE).

Safety Profile

Most antimony compounds arepoisons. Ignites spontaneously in air. When heated todecomposition it emits toxic fumes of Sb.

Synthesis

Preparation of triethyl antimony solution: under the protection of nitrogen, the format reagent cooled to -25 C, take 140 ml of ether to dissolve 63.9 g (0.28 mol) of antimony trichloride, to the format reagent drops of antimony trichloride solution in ether, dropwise addition is completed, warmed to -10 C stirring 1h, and then continue to warm to 25 C, stirring for 1h, the reaction to generate triethyl antimony solution.

Purification of triethyl antimony: under the protection of nitrogen, the triethyl antimony solution at atmospheric pressure evaporation of ether, the distillation residue in the decompression of temperature distillation, evaporation of fractions for the ether and triethyl antimony mixed solution; will be added to the mixed solution to another three flasks, atmospheric pressure evaporation of the remaining ether, the residue remaining in the flasks continue to be decompression of distillation, the evaporation of the crude three ethyl antimony, the purity of 96%, the crude product yield of 61%; the obtained crude triethyl antimony and then decompression distillation, because the temperature is too high triethyl antimony is easy to decompose, so need to control the distillation temperature is not more than 80 C, the purity of 99.9995% of triethyl antimony.
