SENNOSIDES Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Uses

Sennoside is an anthraquinone derivative found in senna leaves. Sennoside is used as a laxativein the treatment of constipation. Studies have suggested that the use of Sennoside may be associated with genotoxicity and carcinogenicity, but there is currently no conclusive evidence to support this.

Definition

ChEBI: A diastereoisomeric mixture containing sennoside A and sennoside B that is used as a laxative and cathartic. Its components are found in senna (Senna alexandrina, also known as Cassia angustifolia), where sennoside A and sennoside B are present in equal amounts, and in rhubarbs (Rheum rhabarbarum), where sennoside A predominates.
