Dimethylpolysilane Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
Uses
Dimethylpolysiloxane is an anti-foaming agent derived from silicone found in various foods, including cooking oil, vinegar, chewing gum, and chocolate. It is added to the oil to prevent it from bubbling up when frozen ingredients are added, so it improves the safety and life of the product. While the risk of toxicity is considered low, it is not a chemical you'd ordinarily consider to be "food." It's also found in putty, shampoo, and caulk.
Application
Dimethylpolysilane (DMPS) is a silicone polymer widely used in the fields of medicine, food, chemicals and cosmetics.
(1) As a defoaming agent, DMPS can be used in over-the-counter medicines to treat flatulence and as a food additive.
(2) DMPS, as a metal catalyst carrier, can be used to prepare various drugs, such as (R)-tamsulosin and baclofen precursors[1].
(3) A dimethylpolysilane (DMPS)-modified platinum catalyst supported on activated carbon (AC) and calcium phosphate (CP), which has significant activity for the selective hydrogenation of nitro compounds[2].
(4) DMPS is used as a skin conditioner, occlusive agent and skin protectant in many cosmetics and hygiene products, such as nail polish, conditioner, cosmetics, contact lens solution, sunscreen, deodorant and shampoo.
Side effects
Dimethylpolysilane is well tolerated without serious adverse effects when used as a medicine, but may cause mild diarrhoea, abdominal pain or bloating, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, stomach pain, constipation or insomnia. They usually subside on their own after stopping the drug. Serious allergic reactions are rare, such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing.Burning, stinging, redness, or irritation may occur when Dimethylpolysilane is used as a skin conditioner (emollient).
