It plays an important role in the synthesis of methionine from homocysteine by donating methyl group. 5-Methyltetrahydrofolic acid-(glutamic acid-13C5) is an isotope of vitamin B9 wherein all the five glutamate carbons are replaced by 13C6 carbon.

Mechanism of Action

Prefolic A, also known as 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate, is a biologically active form of folic acid that functions, in conjunction with vitamin B12, as a methyl-group donor involved in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. Methyl folate is an active metabolite of folic acid. Vitamin supplement in health care products.
