Uses

Aspartic Acid α-Methyl Ester is a derivative of L-Aspartic Acid, a non-essential amino acid found in food sources and dietary supplements. L-Aspartic Acid is one of the 20 proteinogenic amino acids; t he building blocks of proteins. Its conjugate base L-aspartate is an excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.

Example 2: 1.75 g of N-formyl-L-aspartic acid α-methyl ester (10 mmol) was dissolved with 3.5 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (50 mmol) in 10 mL of 90% methanol solution. The reaction mixture was stirred at 70 °C for 4 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was analyzed and confirmed to contain L-aspartic acid α-methyl ester in 85% yield.
