General procedure for the synthesis of 2-thiazol-2-ylbenzaldehyde from 2-bromothiazole and 2-formylphenylboronic acid: 1.04 g of 2-formylphenylboronic acid (6.9 mmol), 1.14 g of 2-bromothiazole (6.9 mmol), and 240 mg of dichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II) (Pd(PPh3)2Cl2. 0.34 mmol). Subsequently, 13.8 mL of 1 M sodium carbonate solution (Na2CO3, 13.8 mmol) and 10 mL of acetonitrile (CH3CN) were added to the reaction mixture. The reactor was sealed and placed in a microwave reactor at 160°C for 5 min. The completion of the reaction was confirmed by LC-MS analysis. The reaction mixture was transferred to a dispensing funnel and extracted by adding 200 mL of dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) and 100 mL of water. The organic layer was dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product. The crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography with the eluent of petroleum ether/ethyl acetate (5:1 to 2:1, v/v) to finally obtain pure 2-thiazol-2-ylbenzaldehyde (0.5 g, yield: 38%).
