Uses

TMSPA is a monomer which can be polymerized to form poly(TMPSA). Poly(TMPSA) can be used to coat gold nanorods (AuNRs) to fabricate an electrode for the sensing of hydrogen peroxide.

General Description

N-(3-(Trimethoxysilyl)propyl)aniline (TMSPA) is an organoalkoxysilane derivative of polyaniline (PAN). TMSPA is a pH sensitive silica-polyaniline hybrid which is electroactive and electrochromic in nature. It is used as a silane coupling agent.

General procedure for the synthesis of N-phenyl-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane from aniline and 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane: 186 g of aniline and 182 g of polyaniline were added to the reactor. Subsequently, 198.7 g of 3-chloropropyltrimethoxysilane was added slowly and continuously dropwise to the reactor. During the reaction, the reaction temperature was maintained at 160 °C and the reaction was continuously stirred for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction conditions were continued for 3 hours to ensure complete reaction. At the end of the reaction, the reaction mixture was separated by filtration to afford 229.8 g of N-phenyl-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane in 90.1% yield and 94.2% selectivity. Subsequently, the solid phase product was neutralized with ammonia and washed repeatedly with deionized water until the pH of the filtrate reached 6-7. Finally, the product was dried under vacuum at 80 °C to ensure that the moisture content did not exceed 1%. The dried product can be recycled as an acid scavenger.
