2-Methyl-2-thiazoline is utilized in lithiation to generate an acetaldehyde enolate equivalent, facilitating the synthesis of mono-, di-, and trisubstituted acetaldehydes, β-hydroxy aldehydes, homoallylic alcohols, and α,α-disubstituted β-ethylenic methyl ketones.
