Very diffusive, ethereal odor, reminiscent of Dipropyl ether and Propyl formate.

Chemical Properties

Colorless mobile liquid.Slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and in most oils.

Uses

Formaldehyde diisopropyl acetal has been suggested for use in perfumes and flavors, but its very low boiling point causes considerable problems for its use in perfumes, except perhaps in a few cases where an ethereal topnote resembling that of "aged"alcohol is desirable.

Preparation

Formaldehyde diisopropyl acetal is produced from Chloromethyl methylether plus Sodium propoxide.
