Step 2: 1.5 g (0.0064 mol) of 7-bromo-5-methoxyquinoline was mixed with 48% hydrobromic acid (30 mL) and reacted at reflux for 20 hours. After completion of the reaction, it was cooled to room temperature and the reaction mixture was poured into 100 mL of water and the pH was adjusted to alkaline with saturated ammonia solution. The solid product was collected by filtration, washed with water and dried under vacuum at 50 °C to give 600 mg of 7-bromoquinolin-5-ol in 41% yield.1H-NMR (400 MHz, d6-DMSO): δ 7.48 (1H, m), 7.18 (1H, s) ppm.
