Uses

Sodium tungstate dihydrate may be used in the preparation of aqueous sols of tungsten oxide dihydrate.

Uses

Fireproofing and waterproofing fabrics; preparing complex Compounds such as phosphotungstate and silicotungstate; as a protective colloid in biological development methods; precipitant for alkaloids; catalyst in oxidation reactions; corrosion inhibitor for steel.

Definition

ChEBI: A hydrate that is the dihydrate form of sodium tungstate. Combines with hydrogen peroxide for the oxidation of secondary amines to nitrones

General Description

Sodium tungstate dihydrate is a sodium salt of tungstic acid, which occurs as white colorless crystals.

Purification Methods

The salt crystallises from hot water (0.8mL/g) on cooling to 0o. [Grüttner & Jender in Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry (Ed. Brauer) Academic Press Vol II p 1727 1965].
