Application

1. Knee and calf inflammation and sprains. 2. Tuberose is commonly used in traditional Indian medicine to treat various problems in children, including fetal toxins, infantile night crying, fright, and facial eczema. 3. Central nervous system imbalance, insomnia, and high blood pressure.

Chemical Properties

Tuberose absolute is obtained by solvent extraction, via the concrete, from the blossoms of Polianthes tuberosa L. (Agavaceae) cultivated in Indiawhere 1–2 t are produced annually. It is an orange to brown liquid with a sweet, narcotic blossom odor and is used in modern, floral perfume compositions. Its main constituents are esters of benzoic acid.

Chemical Properties

The concrete, obtained in approximately 1.20 to 1.50% yields, is a soft mass with a yellowish-brown color and sweet, floral, extremely intense odor. The absolute is a viscous, brownish liquid. The oil is obtained in approximately 3 to 6% yields by distillation of the concrete. Also see Tuberose.
