Uses

α-[2-(2,4-Difluorophenyl)-2-oxoethyl]-1H-indole-3-acetic Acid, is a derivative of the plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid, improves survival of fibroblasts from patients with mitochondrial diseases.

Biological Activity

Mitochonic Acid 5 is a potent enhancer of mitochondrial ATP production th at significantly increased the cellular ATP level in Hep3B human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Mitochonic Acid 5 improves the survival of fibroblasts from patients with mitochondrial diseases. It appears th at mitochonic Acid 5 facilitates ATP synthase oligomerization and supercomplex formation with mitofilin/Mic60.

in vivo

Administration of Mitochonic acid 5 (MA-5) to an ischemia-reperfusion injury model and a cisplatin-induced nephropathy model improved renal function. To examine the tissue-protective effect of Mitochonic acid 5, the oral bioavailability is examined. Oral administration of Mitochonic acid 5 increases the plasma concentration in a dose-response manner at the peak time of 1 hour^[1].
