Chemical Properties

White waxy odorous solid. The saturated fatty acids contained are completely hydrogenated (to the iodine value ≤4) of the natural high erucic acid rapeseed oil.

Uses

Coating agent; emulsifier; stabilizer; thickening agent; forming agent; texture improving agent.

Synthesis

Hydrogenated rapeseed oil can be prepared by hydrogenation of high erucic acid rapeseed oil obtained by pressing or solvent extraction of the seeds of cruciferous rapeseed. The reaction conditions are that in the presence of a nickel catalyst, the temperature does not exceed 245°C.
