Preparation

3-benzyl-1-methyl-1H-indole is prepared by the following steps:To a solution of oxindole 40 (1.0 g, 4.22 mol) in THF, BMS  complex was added dropwise at room temperature. The reaction  mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. Then the reaction mixture  was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and  filtered. Solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. Column  chromatographic purification over neutral alumina using EtOAc-pet ether (1:9) gave indole  41 (0.653 g).Yield : 70%
