POLY(DIMETHYLSILANE) Usage And Synthesis

Physical properties

The structure of polydimethylsilane crystals has been determined by use of X-ray diffraction measurements and a theoretical diffraction pattern. The crystal structure obtained is monoclinic (a = 0.745 nm, b = 0.724 nm, c = 0.389 nm, and γ = 67.1°), in which the primitive translation vector c correspinds to the period of a one-dimensional silicon backbone having an all-trans conformation.

Uses

Polydimethylsilane (PDMS) is a precursor of silicon carbide is a pre-ceramic polymer precursor. It has wide application prospects in the areas of photoconductivity, LED, nonlinear optical material and so on, which is the reason it draws people's great attention.

Reactions

Polycarbosilane was synthesized from polydimethylsilane in the presence of ZSM-5 (Si/Al=30) as a catalyst at 350oC-400oC.
The polycarbosilane (PCS), which is the precursor of SiC fiber, was synthesized under high pressure by thermal decomposition of polydimethylsilane.
