Synthesis

General procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-5-bromopyridine-3-carbonitrile from 2-amino-3-cyanopyridine: Example 1; 2-Amino-5-bromopyridine-3-carbonitrile (2); 2-Amino-3-cyanopyridine (0.56 g, 4.6 mmol) was dissolved in 10 mL of acetic acid followed by the addition of 1 equivalent of sodium carbonate. Then, 1.1 equivalents of bromine was added slowly and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. An orange precipitate was formed during the reaction and after filtration, the target compound 2 was obtained in quantitative yield.The compound can be used directly in subsequent reactions without further purification.
