Chemical Properties
6-Butyl-3,6-dihydro-2,4-dimethyl-2H-pyran is a colorless liquid with a radiant and fresh geranium note. It creates fresh, green top notes in fragrances, especially for air fresheners and fabric care products. The material is produced by a Prins reaction of n-valeraldehyde with 2-methyl-1-penten-4-ol; the latter is obtained by dehydration of hexylene glycol .
