Sodium ricinolate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
White or slightly yellow powder; nearly odorless. Soluble in water or alcohol. Combustible.
Uses
In textile finishing; sometimes added to Turkey red oil, dry-cleaning soaps.
Uses
sodium ricinolate is an emulsifying agent used in certain soaps and medicines. It is a sodium salt of the fatty acids from castor oil.
General Description
White powder.
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
An alcohol substituted, unsaturated aliphatic basic organic salt. Aqueous solutions are alkaline. Materials in this group are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydroxide ions and have pH's greater than 7.0. They react as bases to neutralize acids. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of the bases in reactivity group 10 (Bases) and the neutralization of amines. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible.
Health Hazard
ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: Low toxicity.
