plaunotol Usage And Synthesis
Description
Plaunotol is a diterpene alcohol extracted from the Thai plant, plau-noi. teprenone (2), it is reportedly useful as a cytoprotective anti-ulcer agent.
Chemical Properties
Pale yellow oily substance, with fragrance and bitter taste. Soluble in benzene, acetone, alcohol or ether, insoluble in water. Acute toxicity LD50 male and female mice, male and female rats (μl/kg, 1 μl-equivalent to 0.95mg of the product's refined oil): 8800, 8180, 10900, 11200 orally; 35500, 44000, 29500, 35000 subcutaneously.

Uses
Plaunotol is a cytoprotective antiulcer agent that showed antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. It also enhanced the antibacterial activity of amoxycillin or clarithromycin antibiotics.
