Biological Activity

ASB8 (ankyrin repe at and SOCS box containing 8) gene encodes a protein belonging to the ankyrin repe at and SOCS (suppressor of cytokine signaling) box containing protein family. It contains four Ankyrin repeats and one SOCS box. The gene contains four exons interspaced by three introns is mapped to chromosome 12q13. It is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and at varied levels in heart, brain, placenta, liver, kidney, and pancreas. It may be involved in the development of lung cancer. It may be a substrate-recognition component of a SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex th at functions in ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation of target proteins.
