DIISOBUTYLENE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Colorless liquid
Uses
Diisobutylene, an alkene, may be used in the following studies:
- To compose alternalte diesel fuel.
- As fuel in single-cylinder engine; exhaust generated from combustion due to the burning of fuel has been reported to contain high concentrations of olefins.1
- Preparation of mono- and dialkylated diphenylamines.
General Description
A clear colorless liquid with a petroleum-like odor. Flash point 10°F. Less dense than water and insoluble in water. Vapors heavier than air. Used in the manufacture of other chemicals.
Air & Water Reactions
Highly flammable. Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
DIISOBUTYLENE may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. May react exothermically with reducing agents to release hydrogen gas.
Health Hazard
Low general toxicity; may act as simple asphyxiant in high vapor concentrations.
Flammability and Explosibility
Highly flammable
Synthesis
1) Mixed carbon tetrachloride and tert-butanol were pumped by the metering pump into the static mixer mixing, and then after preheating into the fixed-bed reactor, in the resin catalyst for the dimerization of isobutene, dimerization reaction in the vapor-liquid mixed-phase reaction state;
2) Reactor outlet generated diisobutene products into the distillation tower for separation, the top of the tower to get the mixed carbon tetrachloride, the tower kettle got the diisobutene products. The top of the tower got mixed carbon tetra and the tower kettle got the diisobutylene product.
