LITHIUM OXALATE Usage And Synthesis
Uses
Lithium oxalate is used as lithium battery electrolyte. It is also used as an analytical reagent and reducing reagent. Further, it is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of other chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dyestuffs and in organic synthesis.
Uses
Oxalic acid dilithium salt may be used to prepare lithium tetrafluorooxalatophosphate, an electrolyte for Li-ion batteries with better thermal stability.
Synthesis
(1) Add 300kg of industrial grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate to 1500L of pure water, dissolve it in a plastic container, and stir until the solution clarifies to obtain industrial grade lithium hydroxide solution. Weigh and lithium element molar ratio of 1:2 oxalic acid (mass content of 299.9%) 450kg, with 450L temperature 90°C pure water in the enamel container stirring to dissolve to get the oxalic acid solution, take 90kg of oxalic acid solution slowly added to industrial grade lithium hydroxide solution, stirring until fully reacted, static for 10min, filtration and removal of impurities to the solution is clear, to get a good filtration of the lithium hydroxide solution. .
(2) Take 162kg from the remaining oxalic acid solution in step (1) and add it to the reactor, stir, and then slowly add the filtered lithium hydroxide solution obtained in step (1) until a small amount of white precipitate is generated at the bottom, and stop adding the filtered lithium hydroxide solution, so as to make it fully reactive; and then using homogeneous synthesis, add the remaining filtered lithium hydroxide solution and the remaining oxalic acid solution slowly at the same time into the reactor, and add a small amount of white precipitate during the addition process. The reaction kettle, continuous stirring during the addition process, the temperature was controlled at about 50°C, and the pH of the reaction system was adjusted to 7.0 with lithium hydroxide or oxalic acid after the addition, and the stirring was continued for 10 min.
(3) Control the temperature of the lithium oxalate solution obtained in step (2) at a rate of 5°C/h water bath down to room temperature, leave to white precipitate lithium oxalate to be all sunk to the bottom, collect the upper layer of the clear liquid to return to step (1) as a solvent to replace the pure water in the next reaction recycling.
(4) Use PTFE lined centrifuge to dry the lithium oxalate obtained in step (3), and dry the wet material at 100tC for 6h to obtain 203kg of finished high purity lithium oxalate.
