METHYL PHENYLGLYCIDATE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Colorless oily liquid. Sp.Gr. 1.18. B.P. 257℃. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Uses
Methyl phenyl glycidate has been suggested for use in flavor compositions but is not included in the American G. R.A.S. list. It could find some use as a modifier in Tutti-frutti complexes or in fruity chewing gum flavors, where its fixative value can be utilized.
Preparation
Methyl phenyl glycidate is produced from Benzaldehyde and Methyl monochloroacetate with Sodamide or Sodium methylate as a condensing agent.
