(-)-JASMONIC ACID Usage And Synthesis
Uses
Jasmonic acid (JA) is an important hormonelike signaling molecule that is apparently distributed throughout the plant kingdom. It functions as an intermediate in defense response pathways against both pathogens and insects. JA is derived from the oxygenation of the octadecanoid α-linolenic acid by the enzyme lipoxygenase. The synthetic pathway includes a cyclization step yielding a cyclopentanone that has overall structural similarity with the prostaglandin class of animal hormones. Several but not all of the enzymes for JA biosynthesis are located in the chloroplast (1).
Uses
(-)-trans Jasmonic Acid is an enantiomer of trans-Jasmonic Acid (J210520) a major constituent of essential oil of Jasmine. Used by the fragrance industry. This product is a clear, colorless to very light yellow oil that adheres to the surface of the vial.
Definition
ChEBI: Jasmonic acid is an oxo monocarboxylic acid that is (3-oxocyclopentyl)acetic acid substituted by a (2Z)-pent-2-en-1-yl group at position 2 of the cyclopentane ring. It has a role as a plant metabolite and a member of jasmonates. It is a conjugate acid of a jasmonate(1-). It is an enantiomer of a (+)-jasmonic acid.
