It is used synthesis, structure and electrochemistry of mono- and dinuclear osmium n,n?-di- and tetraphenylbipyridyls and extended bipyridyls. It is also used as a primary and secondary intermediate.

9,10-Anthracenediboronic acid bis(pinacol) ester can be used in the synthesis of polyarylpyrazolines, which can further be utilized in the preparation of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
