The general procedure for the synthesis of 3-fluoro-N,N-dimethylaniline from carbon dioxide and 3-fluoro-N-methylaniline was as follows: the methylation of various secondary amines was carried out using the general method Example II. The specific operating conditions were as follows: the substituted aromatic amines (1.0 mmol), [Ru(Triphos)(TMM)] (2.5 mol%), and HNTf2 (5 mol%) were dissolved in THF (2 mL), and reacted at 150 °C under a CO2/H2 (20/60 bar) atmosphere. The reaction time and yield data are detailed in Table II below.The reaction times and corresponding yields for different amine substrates are listed in Table II.
